Energy and Mines Minister and MLA for Kootenay East Bill Bennet has released the following statement:

“On Sept. 16, 2014, a tragic accident occurred at Swansea Quarry operations resulting in the deaths of two employees.

“An industrial motor vehicle incident took place on a mine site access track. While on a steep descent, the truck went out of control and at the bottom of the track, it crashed and overturned.

“Authorities have initiated an investigation, however, it is too soon to speculate on the cause of the accident, as the Coroners Service and the BC Inspector of Mines continue to investigate these deaths.

“I wish to offer my sincere condolences to the families affected, the workers at Swansea Quarry and our community of Cranbrook.”
