The Ministry of Energy and Mines has released the Annual Report of the Chief Inspector of Mines for the 2013 calendar year.
This report underscores the progress made in health and safety over the last year. Specific highlights of the 2013 report include:
- A decrease in the annual injury rate.
- An increase in mine inspections in 2013 - ministry inspectors conducted 904 inspections compared to 874 inspections in 2012.
- An increase in the number of geotechnical mine inspections completed - 31 compared to 26 in the previous year.
- A decrease in the number of dangerous occurrences.
- Reductions in the number of days of work lost to injury.
The Office of the Chief Inspector and ministry staff continue to work closely with industry, workers and communities to ensure that mineral exploration and mining activities are conducted responsibly.
