B.C. has received a Silver Award for Innovative Management from the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) in recognition of government’s work on Leading Workplace Strategies.
The program, which supports mobile and flexible work styles across the public service while also finding significant cost savings, was named one of the top two innovations in Canada at IPAC’s annual conference in Edmonton this week.
The Ministry of Technology, Innovation and Citizens’ Services partnered with the BC Public Service Agency to implement Leading Workplace Strategies in collaboration with six other ministries. Projects across government have saved almost $3 million in building occupancy costs and reduced carbon emissions by 1,770 tonnes each year; overall, the changes implemented so far under this corporate initiative are expected to achieve $5.4 million in savings by 2018.
The IPAC awards recognize world-class innovators who are changing the face of public service in Canada while showing major organizational transformation and outstanding performance. Criteria include courage, execution, impact, collaboration, innovation, results and whether the project can be replicated in other jurisdictions. This year, IPAC received more than 80 submissions from across Canada in this particular category.
