British Columbians now have even easier access to their personal income and disability assistance information when they want it with the provincewide launch of My Self Serve.

My Self Serve is a way for people who receive income and disability assistance to access their personal information online, including their monthly cheque amount, status of their monthly report (stub), annual earnings exemption limits, as well as receiving important reminders and messages from the ministry. My Self Serve offers people more flexibility in how, when and where they access ministry services - increasing convenience and independence.

My Self Serve builds on the best practices and information gathered from the ministry’s income assistance online application tool and through stakeholder consultations to determine the types of online services that best meet the needs of British Columbians.

This web-based tool was introduced in phases in early 2014 to a limited number of users in Abbotsford and Prince George, was expanded in August and now is available throughout the province. The ministry consulted and incorporated feedback from staff, advocacy groups, and the people government serves throughout the planning and implementation stages.

Quick Facts:

  • My Self Serve supports the Accessible Service Delivery building block in Accessibility 2024 − engage.gov.bc.ca/disabilitywhitepaper − and moves government closer to its goal of ensuring that B.C. services are the most accessible in Canada by 2024.
  • Of the more than 75,000 people who apply for income and disability assistance each year, 94% apply online with supports available by telephone and in person.
  • The introduction of this online service delivery tool expands on the ministry’s current Internet/online, face-to-face and telephone services to offer an additional service channel for the people government serves.
  • Government takes the privacy of the individuals and families it serves seriously and My Self Serve meets all requirements under B.C. privacy legislation.
