NORTH Motorists are advised of the planned full closure of Highway 1 at the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Bridge on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, from 1 a.m. until 5 a.m.
The closure is to allow the removal of both overhead signs spanning the width of the bridge. This work is part of the safety fence installation and sidewalk widening for the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Bridge project.
A detour will direct traffic (except commercial trucks) to the Lions Gate Bridge. Due to load restrictions on the Lions Gate Bridge, commercial trucks will not be permitted to use the detour and will therefore be stopped at each end of the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Bridge until it is reopened at 5 a.m.
Flaggers will co-ordinate the safe crossing for cyclists and pedestrians using the west side sidewalk during the closure.
Motorists are encouraged to plan their routes in advance and check DriveBC for current road conditions. The ministry apologizes for any inconvenience to the travelling public and thanks them for their patience.
