The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and the District of Sooke are partnering to construct a new roundabout at the intersection of Highway 14 and Brownsey Boulevard.
Construction of the roundabout will be cost-shared between the Government of B.C. and the District of Sooke. Design and engineering plans for the roundabout are underway, with final project details expected in spring 2015. Construction is expected to take place from summer 2015 to fall 2015.
The roundabout will replace the two stop signs currently in place on Brownsey Boulevard in Sooke and provide safer access for motorists and pedestrians with more visible crosswalks and improved lighting.
Roundabouts improve safety and traffic flow by moving vehicles efficiently through busy areas. They also decrease the amount and severity of collisions that occur in conventional signalized intersections. Roundabouts also decrease traffic idling, improving air quality and reducing greenhouse-gas emissions.
