One of the most anticipated events of the year has arrived and with it has drawn visitors from around the world. The TED 2015 Truth and Dare Conference is host to over a thousand delegates and takes place at the Vancouver Convention Centre from March 16-20, 2015. It will feature over 80 speakers on topics ranging from technology to politics, and science to philosophy.
TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) is a non-profit organization based on the sharing of ideas through TED Talks - conferences taped live and shared free-of-cost online. Its prestigious annual event is one of the most preeminent conferences in the world. Previously headquartered in Long Beach, California, TED moved to Vancouver in 2014. Organizers have already announced it will stay for a third year in 2016, confirming British Columbia as a world-class destination for culture and technology.
Earlier today, Minister of Technology, Innovation and Citizens’ Services, Amrik Virk, welcomed a group of TED delegates to Vancouver. The entire city is bustling with convention-related activity hosted by organizations and businesses eager to meet guests and highlight all the province has to offer.
Unsurpassed natural beauty and lifestyle options, business friendly tax incentives and a strong economy have supported the development of a diverse and vibrant tech ecosystem in B.C. The province is brimming with over 9,000 technology businesses and is home to big local successes like Hootsuite, Stemcell Technologies, and Avigilon. It also continues to attract major international players like Sony Imageworks and Industrial Light & Magic.
This week showcases B.C. tech to the rest of the world not only as a source of commerce, trade and leading edge innovation, but as the place to grow and invest.
