Geoscience BC

Geoscience BC was established in 2005 through a $25-million investment from the British Columbia government.

Geoscience BC’s mandate is to enhance B.C.’s ability to attract mineral and energy industry investment through the provision of applied geoscience information. Geoscience BC’s activities complement the work of the British Columbia Geological Survey (BCGS), the government branch responsible for producing and housing public geological and geoscientific information about mineral resources and mineral potential in the province.

This organization provides high-quality geoscience information and technology for mineral and energy exploration and development in British Columbia. Data collected provides significant short- and long-term benefits to the province including: increased industry investments in the province, business and employment opportunities in rural and remote communities, and new revenues to government from exploration activity and the development of new mineral and energy resources.

As a non-government, non-profit organization, Geoscience BC is in a unique position to help facilitate First Nations and community engagement and involvement in geoscience projects by advancing public understanding and support for resource development—a key element of B.C.’s competitiveness in attracting new mineral and energy exploration and development investment.
