The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died following a snowmobiling accident at Whistler-Blackcomb on Jan. 1, 2016.
He is Paul Leechburch-Auwers, aged 65, of Catherine Field, Australia, a suburb of Sydney.
Mr. Leechburch-Auwers was participating in a group snowmobiling experience on the evening of Jan. 1, 2016. Shortly after 11 p.m., while descending a trail, Mr. Leechburch-Auwers lost control of the machine he was piloting which went along a concrete barrier, over an embankment and struck a tree. Mr. Leechburch-Auwers died at the scene just after midnight on Jan. 2, 2016.
The BC Coroners Service and Whistler RCMP continue to investigate this death.
Mr. Leechburch-Auwers’ family has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
