The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of an individual whose remains were found in June 2015 near Cherryville, a small community in the Okanagan east of Lumby.
He was Charles Lee Scott, aged 32 years, of Vernon.
Mr. Scott went missing and was presumed drowned in Cherry Creek in 2011, and despite extensive searches could not be located. In June 2015, human remains were located on the bank of Cherry Creek near Hanson Park in Cherryville.
A recent initiative by the BC Coroners Service’s Identification and Disaster Response Unit to profile difficult unidentified remains cases, involving the International Commission on Missing Persons, produced a DNA profile which was compared to familial profiles and matched to Mr. Scott.
The BC Coroners Service continues to investigate this death.
The family of Mr. Scott has been notified of his death and on behalf of the family, the BC Coroners Service requests that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
