The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died following a motorcycle incident near Nanaimo on May 6, 2016.
He was Steven Beau Smith, aged 26, of Nanaimo.
Mr. Smith, who was well known as a professional downhill mountain bike racer, was operating a motorcycle on logging roads west of Nanaimo at about 1:30 p.m. on May 6, 2016, when his motorcycle crashed. Mr. Smith was immediately airlifted to Victoria General Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries on May 10, 2016.
The BC Coroners Service continues to investigate this death.
Mr. Smith’s family has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service requests that the media respect their privacy during this difficult time.
