The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died following a scuba-diving incident in the ocean near Nanoose on July 20, 2016.
He was Martin Keith Bishop, aged 52, of Edmonton, Alta.
Mr. Bishop was visiting the mid-Island region on a family vacation and on July 20, went on a scuba-diving expedition with a dive-master and one other person. They entered the water near the intersection of Tyee Crescent and Blueback Road in Nanoose, a well-known diving spot.
During the dive, something went wrong and Mr. Bishop was deceased at the scene.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
The family of Mr. Bishop has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
