Investigation has shown that a woman who was found deceased after a motor-vehicle incident in Central Saanich actually died of natural causes.
Suzanne Cameron Gillespie, aged 47, of Saanichton, was pronounced dead after being struck by a car while she was lying on the travelled portion of the roadway in the 2300-block of Mount Newton Cross Road on the evening of Feb. 12, 2016.
A thorough investigation by the BC Coroners Service, Central Saanich Police Service and Saanich Police Traffic Services has found that Ms. Gillespie had, in fact, died before the vehicle struck her.
Post-mortem testing showed unequivocally that she had suffered a sudden cardiac event as a result of severe heart disease prior to sustaining the injuries incurred in the motor vehicle incident.
