The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died after an air crash in Powell River on Sept. 5, 2016.
He was David Thomas Tetarenko, aged 54, of Coquitlam.
Mr. Tetarenko was the pilot and sole occupant of a Piper Twin Comanche airplane which was heading to land at the Powell River airport at about 11:15 a.m. on Sept. 5, 2016. Witnesses noted the plane behaving oddly in the air, following which it was seen to crash into a vacant cleared area near the 4500-block Joyce Avenue in Powell River. Mr. Tetarenko was deceased at the scene.
The BC Coroners Service, Transportation Safety Board and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
Mr. Tetarenko’s family has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service requests that the media respect their privacy during this difficult time.
