The BC Coroners Service has announced that a public inquest will be held into the death of Maurizio Angelo Facchin.
The inquest will take place beginning Oct. 17, 2016, at the Coroners courtroom in Burnaby.
Mr. Facchin, aged 50, of Vancouver, died after an encounter with Burnaby RCMP at an apartment in the 6900-block of Walker Avenue in Burnaby on the afternoon of June 4, 2014. A conducted energy weapon was deployed by the RCMP during the encounter.
Presiding coroner Isis Van Loon and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses under oath to determine the facts surrounding this death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances.
An inquest is a formal process that allows for public presentation of evidence relating to a death.
