The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died following a workplace accident near Hope on Nov. 24, 2016.
He was Michael Stevenson, aged 42, of Spuzzum, a small community about 50 kilometres north of Hope.
Mr. Stevenson was as a maintenance worker with CN Rail. Shortly before 5 a.m. on Nov. 24, 2016, he was working on a section of track north of Hope on the east side of the Fraser River. The section included a bridge over a creek. When his co-workers could not make contact with him for a period of time, they checked and found Mr. Stevenson in the creek below the bridge. Mr. Stevenson was deceased at the scene.
The BC Coroners Service, CN Police, the federal labour ministry and RCMP continue to investigate this incident.
The family of Mr. Stevenson has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service strongly asks that media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
