The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure advises motorists that Highway 97 from Sexsmith/Old Vernon Road to Edwards Road in Kelowna will be closed from 9 p.m. Saturday, April 30 to 5 a.m. Sunday, May 1 while utilities work is conducted as part of the six-laning along this corridor.
For traffic heading north on Highway 97:
A detour will be in place directing traffic east on Old Vernon Road, north on Acland Road, and west on Edwards Road.
For traffic heading south on Highway 97:
A detour will be in place directing traffic west onto Edwards Road, south onto Adams Road and east on Sexsmith Road.
A map of the detour route can be viewed at: http://bit.ly/1Nx612W
In order to minimize inconvenience to motorists, this utilities work is being done during the overnight hours when traffic is lightest. Travellers are advised to allow extra time to reach their destinations and are asked to drive with caution, follow all signs and watch for traffic control personnel.
The work is being done to expand and upgrade over four kilometres of Highway 97 from Highway 33 to Edwards Road. These upgrades will improve safety and efficiency for all users of the highway and better connect Kelowna’s downtown core with surrounding areas.
The ministry appreciates travelers’ patience while this work is being completed.
