The BC Coroners Service will hold a public inquest into the death of Rhett Patrick Victor Mutch.
The inquest will commence May 15, 2017, at the Victoria Supreme Court.
On Nov. 1, 2014, members of the Victoria Police Department responded to a 911 call at a residence on Dallas Road. Mr. Mutch, aged 20 years, was reported to have entered his mother’s home without permission. Mr. Mutch sustained critical gunshot injuries in the ensuing police interaction. Despite efforts by paramedics, Mr. Mutch was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Presiding coroner Donita Kuzma and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses under oath to determine the facts surrounding this death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances.
An inquest is a formal process that allows for public presentation of evidence relating to a death.
