A number of highway resurfacing projects will be underway in the region this summer to increase the safety and reliability of roads for travelling public, announced MLA for Nechako Lakes John Rustad, on behalf of Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone.
“With the extreme winter weather in this region, our roads and highways can take a beating,” said Rustad. “Resurfacing projects will be getting underway in the next few months, which when complete, will make a significant difference for residents, tourists and commercial drivers travelling on these corridors.”
Resurfacing work will be done at these locations:
- 22 kilometres of Highway 16 between Mapes Road and Hillcrest Way;
- 20 kilometres of Highway 16 between Engen Road to Burrard Avenue;
- 15 kilometres on Keefe’s Landing Road on the south side of Francois Lake; and
- 7.5 kilometres on Highway 27 between the junction with Highway 16, to Braeside Road.
In addition, crack-sealing will be done on Highway 16 from the Bulkley River to Pleasant Valley Overhead and from Burns Lake to the Fort Fraser CN Overhead. Work on all of these projects will be completed this summer.
These projects are part of B.C. on the Move, the B.C. government’s 10-year transportation plan for the improvement of the province’s transportation network. Over the next three years the ministry and its partners are investing over $4.6 billion in priority transportation investments as part of this plan.
