People travelling in northern British Columbia will benefit from safer, smoother roads as the Province advances highway and side-road resurfacing projects during the 2026 construction season, covering more than 190 kilometres of infrastructure.
Major resurfacing projects taking place across the region this construction season include key investments along Highway 97 and Highway 27.
Highway resurfacing underway
On Highway 97 between Azouzetta and Mount Solitude (two hours north of Prince George), 40 km of asphalt resurfacing will take place between Honeymoon Creek Bridge and Big Boulder Creek Bridge. The $10.5-million project was awarded to Peter Bros. Construction and is expected to be complete by fall 2026.
On Highway 27 and Sowchea side roads, 75 km will be seal coated from the junction of Highway 16 to the Stuart River Bridge, as well as various side roads in the Sowchea area. LaPrairie Works Inc. was awarded a $6‑million contract to complete this work. The project is expected to be finished by fall 2026.

- Upper Halfway Road (53 km)
- Highway 97, Bear Lake to Red Rocky Creek (17 km)
- Highway 16 Kasiks River Bridge to Andesite Boat Launch (20 km)
- Fort George area side roads (20 km)
- Peace district (25 km)
- Highway 113, Big Cedar River Bridge to Sand-Gainor Creek Bridge (13 km)
This year’s construction season will see approximately $45 million invested into resurfacing northern highways and local roads.
