An area restriction order is in effect for Crown land in the vicinity of the Nichyeskwa Creek wildfire, about 80 kilometres northeast of Smithers and about 25 kilometres northwest of Fort Babine.
This wildfire currently covers about 140 hectares. Firefighters are working to stop the fire from spreading towards the 457 Forest Service Road.
The BC Wildfire Service has implemented this area restriction to protect public safety and avoid any interference with fire control activities. The order will remain in place until Sept. 15, 2018, or until it is rescinded.
The area restriction order applies to all Crown land outlined on the map available online at: http://ow.ly/ZRav30lmRkG
Under this order and Section 11(2) of the Wildfire Act, a person must not remain in or enter the Nichyeskwa Creek wildfire restricted area without prior written authorization from an official designated for the purposes of the Wildfire Act, unless the person enters the area only in the course of:
- travelling as a person acting in an official capacity; or
- travelling for the purpose of supporting wildfire suppression activities.
