Five resurfacing projects have begun in the Skeena and Bulkley-Stikine districts, to improve safety and efficiency of highways 37 and 118, and on Tow Hill Road, east of Masset.

Highway 37 – Kitimat to Northwest Regional Airport:

Approximately 35 kilometres of Highway 37 will be resurfaced between Kitimat and the Northwest Regional Airport in Terrace. Pittman Asphalt from Prince George has been awarded the $6-million contract for this project.

Tow Hill Road – Haida Gwaii:

This project will rehabilitate approximately eight kilometres on Tow Hill Road, on Haida Gwaii, east of Masset. Adventure Paving from Prince Rupert has been awarded the $1.8-million contract for this project.

Highway 37 – Good Hope Lake to Yukon:

A total of 53 kilometres will be sealcoated along Highway 37 in two segments, from Good Hope Lake to Boya Lake, and from Wheeler Lake to the Yukon border. This project will include resurfacing within Lower Post. White Bear Industries Ltd. of Terrace has been awarded the $3.2-million contract for this project.

Highway 37 – Cranberry #1 Bridge to Brown Bear Creek:

Approximately 44  kilometres on Highway 37 will be sealcoated, from Cranberry #1 Bridge to Brown Bear Creek. Arrowsmith Road Maintenance Ltd. of Victoria has been awarded the $1.4-million contract for this project.

Highway 118 – Topley to Granisle:

This project includes crack sealing and sealcoating 49 kilometres of Highway 118 from Topley to Granisle, and sealcoating 10 kilometres of Mapes Road near Vanderhoof. Arrowsmith Road Maintenance Ltd. of Victoria has been awarded the $2.2-million contract for this project.

This work is being done to preserve and extend the life of the road surfaces.

All five projects are expected to be complete in fall 2018.

When driving through any of these construction zones, motorists are advised to watch for construction workers, traffic controllers and signs.

In total, more than $76 million is being invested in highway, side road and bridge rehabilitation in northern British Columbia in 2018. The B.C. government will continue to invest in transportation infrastructure for the safe, reliable and efficient movement of people and goods.
