Four appointments have been made to WorkSafeBC’s governance board, including one new director and three re-appointed directors.
Michelle Laurie is a new appointment to the board for a one-year term. She will represent workers’ interests.
Brooks Patterson and Lillian White have both been reappointed for one-year terms. Lee Loftus continues on the board for a two-year term.
The Workers Compensation Act sets out requirements that ensure the board of directors is balanced and represents the public interest, as well as the interest of B.C.’s employers and workers. As such, the act stipulates that one director must be a professional who provides health-care or rehabilitation services to persons with disabilities. This position is currently vacant, while a new member is recruited.
The legislation requires that the board include professionals from a range of relevant fields, including occupational health and safety, law enforcement and an actuary.
