PPE update - Monday, Nov. 23, 2020

To recap B.C.’s cumulative totals, from March to last week’s report on Nov. 16, the following personal protective equipment (PPE) has arrived in B.C.:

  • Almost 7.5 million N95 or equivalent respirators
  • Almost 126.4 million surgical or procedure masks
  • Almost 2.9 million pieces of eye protection, including goggles and face shields
  • Just over 223.6 million pairs of gloves
  • Just over 14 million gowns

Many of the items listed above, and other supplies and equipment that have recently arrived, are in the testing process to make sure the products meet or exceed safety requirements before being used in B.C.’s health-care system.

Over the last week (since the update last week on Nov. 16 until yesterday), the following PPE has arrived in B.C.:

  • 268,616 N95 or equivalent respirators
  • 4,292,350 surgical or procedure masks
  • 5,100 pieces of eye protection
  • 11,780,550 pairs of gloves
  • 1,023,275 gowns

These numbers do not yet include all of the supplies that arrived at Vancouver International Airport on a cargo carrier on Nov. 12.

Provincial Health Services Authority Supply Chain is working to inspect and sort that arrival. As of today, the understanding is that shipment includes:

  • 43.2 million pairs of gloves
  • 105,540 gowns
  • 24 million procedure masks
  • 21,600 procedure masks with visors

B.C. continues to source and test PPE. It is working to pursue any and all credible leads for safe and effective products for the health-care system.
