Childcare BC New Spaces Fund creates more options for families

Learn more about the new child care spaces that are coming for families in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission and Maple Ridge.

CEFA Early Learning Abbotsford – Highstreet (Abbotsford)
CEFA Early Learning Abbotsford – Highstreet is building a new, wheelchair-accessible child care facility that is scheduled to open in summer 2021. CEFA Early Learning is an educational method designed to provide an academic, social, emotional and physical education for every child. The centre will create a total of 143 new licensed child care spaces, including 48 spaces for infants and toddlers and 96 spaces for children aged three years to kindergarten. Child care staff will be able to offer support for children and parents in Cantonese, Mandarin, Hindi, Punjabi, French, Korean, Vietnamese and Portuguese.

Skowkale First Nation Child Care Facility (Chilliwack)
The Skowkale First Nation is building a new child care facility and outdoor playground that are expected to open in spring 2022. The centre will create a total of 44 new licensed child care spaces, including nine spaces for infants and toddlers, 16 spaces for children aged three years to kindergarten and 19 school-age spaces. Programming will focus on community, culture, language and nature, with all children receiving a breakfast and lunch focused on traditional foods.

Fraser River CEC-Centre of Early Childhood Development & Family Services (Chilliwack)
Operated by the Fraser River CEC-Centre of Early Childhood Development & Family Services, the new child care centre will offer a total of 82 licensed child care spaces that are scheduled to open in September 2021. The new centre includes 28 spaces for infants and toddlers, 24 spaces for children aged three years to kindergarten and 30 school-age spaces. The centre has established a Family Resource Hub for families that includes programs for Indigenous families, young parents, children with support needs, new immigrant and refugee families, and low-income families.

Tadpole Academy Childcare Centre (Chilliwack)
Tadpole Academy is constructing a new modular that will add 12 new licensed child care spaces for infants and toddlers, bringing the total number of spaces to 36. The modular is expected to be completed by September 2021. All staff have completed cultural competency training and can speak with families in English, Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi and Filipino.

Little Willows Silver Valley (Maple Ridge)
In spring 2021, Little Willows Silver Valley will open a new child care centre that will offer 57 new licensed spaces for local families. The centre will have 12 spaces for infants and toddlers, 25 spaces for children aged three years to kindergarten and 20 preschool and school-age spaces. Activities include visiting local community gardens, volunteering at the Fraser Valley Feline Adoption Centre and joining in community clean-up initiatives.

Early Years Childcare (Mission)
The District of Mission is building a new child care centre that is set to open in July 2022. The Mission Association for Community Living will operate the facility, which will give local parents access to 42 new licensed child care spaces, including 12 spaces for children aged three years to kindergarten and 30 school-age spaces. The centre will also help children access nutritious food, safe shelter, health care and will support any children experiencing hardships or homelessness. Plans include working with Future 4 Nations Aboriginal Head Start, the Mission Friendship Centre and Siwal Si’wes Advisory Committee to develop pathways to support children and their families.
