Call boxes improve 911 services
  • The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality is installing weatherproof, solar-powered call boxes that are programmed to dial 911 emergency services via satellite.
  • Grande Prairie Fire Rescue, will answer the 911 calls and emergency service will be dispatched accordingly.
  • The call boxes will be installed at five strategically designated pullout locations adjacent to the Alaska Highway (Highway 97):
    • Site 1 – South of Fort Nelson between Fort Nelson and the municipality’s southern border.
    • Site 2 – Across from the Summit Lake Campground at Stone Mountain Provincial Park.
    • Site 3 – North of the community of Toad River.
    • Site 4 – Across from the Liard River Hot Springs Provincial Park.
    • Site 5 – North of the community of Fireside.
  • The Government of Canada, through Public Services and Procurement Canada, is providing technical support for installing connectivity infrastructure along this federal highway.
  • The project is expected to be completed this year.
