Facts about the new homes in Kelowna

Hadgraft Wilson Place (1369 Bertram St.):

  • The Province, through BC Housing, invested $7 million for the project:
    • $3.95 million through the Deepening Affordability fund; and
    • $3.75 through the Investment in Housing Innovation program.
  • The project also received $2.45 million in joint funding through the Canada-British Columbia Bilateral Agreement, a partnership funding agreement between the Province and Government of Canada under the National Housing Strategy.
  • The City of Kelowna provided the land for the project, valued at $700,000. The city leased the land to BC Housing and Pathways Abilities Society for a nominal rate.
  • Additional funding for the project is as follows:
    • approximately $2.5 million from the federal government, through CMHC's National Housing Co-Investment Fund under the National Housing Strategy; and
    • approximately $84,000 in municipal development fee waivers from the City of Kelowna.

Pleasantvale 2 (651 Cambridge Ave.):

  • The development will include a 48-unit apartment building (one- and two-bedroom units) and 24 townhouses that will provide 27 units (two- and three-bedroom units).
  • Rental rates will be available closer to opening, which is estimated for summer 2024.
  • The Province, through BC Housing, is providing approximately $8.7 million toward the construction of Pleasantvale 2, through the Building BC: Community Housing Fund.
  • Additional funding includes:
    • $50,000 from the Society of HOPE; and
    • approximately $692,000 in development cost charges waived by the City of Kelowna.

Alexander Gardener Safe Centre Redevelopment:

  • Demolition of the current building and construction on the redevelopment of the AG Centre is expected to begin in summer 2023.
  • The Province, through BC Housing, is providing a Shovel Ready Housing grant of $5.1 million.
  • CMHC is providing $14.9 million through the National Housing Co-Investment under the National Housing Strategy.
