What to know about the new property purchases
  • The Province, through BC Housing, purchased 197 Quebec St. for $2.2 million through the Permanent Housing Plan, and will provide an additional $2.6 million for renovations.
  • BC Housing will also provide $871,000 in annual operating funding for 197 Quebec St.
  • The Province purchased 1550 Victoria St. for $11.5 million, including all associated fees related to the purchase, with:
    • $6.9 million through the HEARTH fund;
    • $4.6 million through the Building BC: Supportive Housing Fund; and
    • annual operating funding that will be confirmed once a non-profit operator is selected through a request for proposals.
  • The Province, through BC Housing, is leasing Knights Inn for $1.1 million for 24 months from March 31, 2024, until March 30, 2026.
  • The HEARTH program is part of Belonging in BC, the Province’s plan to prevent and reduce homelessness. The plan will also add 3,900 new supportive housing units and 240 complex-care spaces provincewide.
