North Shore, Squamish housing overview

Starting in 2017, the B.C. government has taken action to deliver homes for people in every part of B.C. This includes building homes in every part of the province and introducing the speculation and vacancy tax to turn vacant houses back into places for people live. To date, nearly 80,000 homes have been delivered or are underway, with more coming.

New actions introduced in 2023 are putting thousands of short-term rentals back onto the long-term rental market, leveraging underused public land and low-cost financing to deliver middle-class rental housing, fixing outdated zoning rules to make sure more row homes, townhomes and fourplexes and housing near transit are built, speeding up development approvals to get more housing built faster, and taking more action to make sure homes are for people, not speculators. These actions are expected to deliver hundreds of thousands more homes over the next 10 years.

In the North Shore and Squamish, more than 1,300 homes, including homes built by the Province, through BC Housing, and student housing are now open or underway:
