Facts about the new homes
  • The Province invested approximately $11.2 million from the Building BC: Community Housing Fund for the project and will provide annual operating funding of approximately $600,000.
  • The Kekinow Native Housing Society contributed the land for the project, valued at approximately $5 million.
  • The Surrey Homelessness and Housing Society provided a $275,000 grant.
  • The project also received DCC and Translink waivers worth $275,000.
  • The Building BC: Community Housing Fund is a $4.4-billion investment launched in 2018 to create 20,000 new affordable rental homes in the province.
  • Approximately 12,500 of these homes are already open or underway.
  • To help support Surrey’s growth, the Province has provided almost $90 million from the Growing Community Fund to the City of Surrey, $3.2 million to help meet its housing density targets and $500,000 to improve its development approval process.
  • Since 2017 in Surrey, the B.C. government has opened or expanded 17 schools, initiated the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension, broken ground on a new Surrey hospital and BC Cancer Centre, and confirmed opening of a new medical school at Simon Fraser University, the first in Western Canada in 55 years.
