What to know about the project

  • $9.1 million in low-cost financing provided by the Province through BC Housing.
  • $2.6 million from CMHC through the National Housing Co-Investment Fund (NHCF).
  • $1.6 million in combined grant funding from the Province, through BC Housing, and CMHC ($1.5 million from the Federal BC Priorities Housing Initiative and $134,000 from the Housing Endowment Fund).
  • $310,000 from the Town of Gibsons’ Affordable Housing Reserve Fund.

Phase 2 of the project is being funded through:

  • A $5.2-million BC Builds grant provided by the Province through BC Housing.
  • $8.6 million in low-interest financing through BC Builds.
  • The Town of Gibsons is also providing the land, valued at approximately $3 million.

CMHC contributes to the stability of the housing market and financial system, provides support for Canadians in housing need, and offers unbiased housing research and advice to all levels of Canadian government, consumers and the housing industry. CMHC’s aim is that everyone in Canada has a home they can afford and that meets their needs.

The Affordable Housing Fund (AHF) is part of Canada’s National Housing Strategy (NHS), an $82-billion-plus plan to give more Canadians a place to call home. The Housing Funding Initiatives Map shows affordable housing projects that have been developed. Progress on programs and initiatives are updated quarterly at http://www.placetocallhome.ca.

As of March 2024, the federal government has committed approximately $51 billion to support the creation of more than 146,000 units and the repair of more than 286,000 units. These measures prioritize those in greatest need, including seniors, Indigenous people, people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, and women and children fleeing violence.
