Facts about the Osprey Residence

The Province, through BC Housing, provided approximately $1.2 million for the project through a Community Housing Fund grant, and is providing approximately $100,000 in annual operating funding.

  • Additional funding partners:
    • The federal government, through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), provided:
      • $853,292, through the Affordable Housing Fund (AHF); and
      • $275,000, a contribution of joint funding through the Canada-British Columbia Agreement under the National Housing Strategy.
    • Columbia Basin Trust provided $603,000.
    • The Federation of Canadian Municipalities provided $149,000.
    • The New Denver and Area Housing Society provided $78,000.
  • The Village of New Denver provided the land for the Osprey through a 60-year lease.

The AHF provides funding through low-interest and/or forgivable loans or contributions to help build new affordable housing and renovate and repair existing, affordable and community housing.

  • Through the 2023 Fall Economic Statement, the government announced an additional $1 billion for the AHF, bringing the total funding to more than $14 billion. To further support non-profit, co-operative and public housing providers and respond to the needs of those most impacted by the housing crisis, Budget 2024 committed an additional $1 billion to the fund.
  • This program under the National Housing Strategy (NHS) gives priority to projects that help people who need it most, including women and children fleeing family violence, seniors, Indigenous Peoples, people living with disabilities, those with mental-health or addiction issues, veterans and young adults.
  • As of March 2024, the federal government has committed approximately $51 billion to support the creation of more than 146,000 units and the repair of more than 286,000 units.
