Facts about developments near transit hubs
  • Legislation passed by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure in 2022 (Bill 16) allows the Province to buy land for transit-oriented developments near transit hubs. 
  • The Ministry of Housing passed legislation in December 2023 requiring municipalities to designate transit-oriented development areas within 800 metres of SkyTrain stations and 400 metres of major bus exchanges.
    • The Uptown site is covered under this legislation.
  • The Uptown project is the second Province-initiated transit-oriented development made possible by legislation passed in 2022 (Bill 16).
  • In November, the Province announced plans for a transit-oriented development in Port Moody.
  • As part of the Province’s Homes for People action plan, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has committed to delivering up to 10,000 housing units near transit hubs over the next 10 to 15 years.
