More information on B.C. ICE

The B.C. RCMP ICE unit was created in 2004 and supports all B.C. law enforcement agencies. The BC ICE team and municipal partners collaborate with the National Child Exploitation Crime Centre and associated partners to combat online child sexual exploitation.

  • There are four dedicated ICE units with 28 full-time positions with the B.C. ICE Unit and Kelowna Detachment ICE unit accounting for 16 of these positions.
  • The Vancouver Police Department has a six-person ICE unit and has been approved for three years of funding.
  • The Capital Regional District (CRD) now also has a six-person integrated ICE Team composed of officers from Victoria, Esquimalt, Oak Bay, Saanich and Central Saanich.
  • A CRD ICE Unit has recently been approved for three years of funding to re-establish its integrated ICE Team. The CRD ICE Unit was originally established as a six-month pilot project from Oct. 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, and was the only initiative in B.C. that brought together existing municipal police departmental resources in an integrated team. The unit continued to work collaboratively. However, upon the conclusion of the pilot project in March of 2022, the team, which was reduced in size, no longer shared workspace.
  • The CRD ICE Unit has been approved to adopt an integrated, localized approach to enhance the investigation of ICE cases within the jurisdictions of Central Saanich, Esquimalt, Oak Bay, Saanich and Victoria.
  • This new ICE unit will consist of a sergeant, four constables and a disclosure clerk in a shared workspace and will receive three years of ICE funding to support the unit.
