The Province and seven Carrier Sekani First Nations are re-affirming their shared commitment to implementing a long-term, collaborative vision for reconciliation.
B.C., the Carrier Sekani First Nation Society, and the Carrier Sekani First Nations (Nadleh Whuten, Nak’azdli Whut’en, Saik’uz First Nation, Stellat’en First Nation, Takla Nation, Tl’azt’en Nation, and Ts’il Kaz Koh), have signed the Pathway Forward 3.0 Agreement.
This agreement continues the collaborative approach established in the 2015, 2017 and 2019 agreements, providing a comprehensive reconciliation negotiation framework and funding. It builds on the progress made in earlier agreements and outlines how all parties will further strengthen government-to-government relationships.
The agreement will provide several benefits over time. These benefits are meant to support Carrier Sekani First Nations’ goals of self-determination, self-governance and practise of culture, traditions and customs.
The agreement reflects a mutual intention to develop a clear plan for regional economic development, aligning Carrier Sekani First Nations’ community priorities with broader regional opportunities to support a more inclusive and resilient economy. It also outlines how all parties will collaborate on land and resource management within Carrier Sekani First Nations’ Territories, including provisions related to forestry.
Additional components of the agreement include investments in infrastructure within Carrier Sekani First Nation communities, enhancing the Carrier Sekani First Nations’ community-led health and healing services, and expanding Carrier Sekani First Nations’ socio-cultural programs that continue cultural revitalization.
The Pathway Forward 3.0 Agreement marks more than a decade of collaboration between the seven Carrier Sekani First Nations and the Province. This renewed pathway agreement reinforces a shared commitment to advancing reconciliation through continued partnership with First Nations, industry stakeholders and all levels of government, including federal and local representatives.
Through agreements with Carrier Sekani First Nations, the Province is working together to support healthy, prosperous families and communities with strong connections to culture, the land and each other.
