Eighty-nine affordable rental homes for families, seniors and individuals, along with a respite centre, are now available to people in North Vancouver as a new building opens.
“Seniors, families and people with disabilities will all have new, affordable homes in North Vancouver,” said Christine Boyle, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs. “By opening these new homes, we’re taking the first steps toward an even larger project that will keep people living in the community they love.”
This building is Phase 1 of a multi-phase North Shore Neighbourhood House redevelopment at 144 St. George's Ave. The six-storey building has a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom homes, along with a family respite centre with 18 overnight beds and 25 adult daycare spaces operated by Care BC.
“We are committed to working across governments and across sectors to offer housing help for those who need it most,” said Jonathan Wilkinson, MP for North Vancouver-Capilano. “This project is providing homes for some of North Vancouver’s most vulnerable residents – people whose need is greatest, and urgent. The federal government is proud to be one of the partners making this development happen.”
This building was made possible through a partnership between the Province, through BC Housing and the Ministry of Health, the federal government through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), Catalyst Community Developments Society, Care BC, and the City of North Vancouver.
“The completion of Phase 1 affirms the city’s commitment to building more affordable, inclusive communities,” said Linda Buchanan, mayor of North Vancouver. “As rising housing costs make it increasingly difficult for people to live where they work, this redevelopment offers a transformative solution – delivering much-needed attainable rental homes, while supporting caregivers and enabling seniors to age in place longer. This redevelopment demonstrates what is possible when we commit to addressing our region’s most pressing challenges with vision, partnership and determination.”
Twenty per cent of the homes are accessible for people with increased mobility requirements, such as people using wheelchairs. This includes one- and two-bedroom units.
“This project is a great addition to the community,” said Bowinn Ma, Minister of Infrastructure and MLA for North Vancouver-Lonsdale. “It shows how community partners, the city, the Province and the federal government can all come together to create the kinds of homes that people need at prices they can afford.”
North Shore Neighbourhood House Hub Redevelopment
- This building is Phase 1 of three redevelopment phases of the North Shore Neighbourhood House site in Lower Lonsdale.
- Phase 2 is a mixed-use building, incorporating a three-storey neighbourhood house, along with 179 units of affordable housing delivered by Catalyst and the City of North Vancouver, with funding from BC Housing, through the BC Builds program and the Government of Canada through the Affordable Housing Fund.
- Construction began on Phase 2 in 2025 and is expected to be completed in 2028.
- Phase 3 will include the demolition of the old neighbourhood house in 2028 and the construction of a new public park.
Building a more-inclusive community
- The new neighbourhood house will offer a wide range of essential community services, including child care, youth and seniors’ programs, recreational and wellness programs, and food-security programs.
- When completed, this site will provide almost 270 affordable homes and a wide range of community amenities and public space, set in a vibrant neighbourhood.
This project is part of a $19-billion housing investment by the B.C. government. Since 2017, the Province has more than 93,600 homes that have been delivered or are underway, including almost 1,200 homes in North Vancouver.

- $11 million from the Province, through BC Housing: Shovel Ready Housing grant.
- approximately $11.1 million from Care BC to fund the family respite centre.
