Christine Boyle, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs, has issued the following statement:
“It’s heartening to see yet another independent report showing that renters are seeing asking rents going down in Metro Vancouver. This latest report says downtown Vancouver saw a decrease of almost 14% in one-bedroom rentals. That is one of the biggest year-over-year drops that this report has ever tracked. The West End also saw a large decrease, with rents dropping by over 10%.
“This progress is a reflection of the many years of taking action and strong collaboration across all levels of government – to speed up approvals, reduce barriers to construction, crack down on speculators and build important partnerships to get homes built, faster. I am encouraged to see that our focus on housing affordability and building more homes is making a difference. These results show we’re on the right path with David Eby’s housing action plan, and we know there is more work ahead. We will not stop until people throughout B.C. can find homes they can afford in the communities they love.”
