Work to improve 500 kilometres of highways and side roads in B.C.’s southern Interior is underway, providing safer and smoother roadways for residents, travellers and commercial trucks.
Approximately 28 kilometres of Highway 3 will be repaved in summer 2026 from the east side of Kootenay Pass to the Summit Creek Bridge, along with side roads in the Wynndel area. Okanagan Aggregates Ltd. has been awarded an $11.7-million contract to deliver the project, which is expected to be complete by October 2026.

Other major resurfacing projects taking place in the region in 2026 include:

- Highway 3 Elko to Fernie intermittent (10.2 kilometres)
- Highway 3 Princeton to Stirling Bridge intermittent and Princeton-Summerland Road (45.7 kilometres)
- Highway 3 Paulson Brake Check to Sheep Creek Chain Up and Robson side roads (30.2 kilometres)
- Highway 5 Snowshed Hill, Henning to Larson Hill and Coldwater Road (50.6 kilometres)
- Highway 5 CN Junction Road to Rayleigh and Inks Lake Hill northbound (27.3 kilometres)
- Highway 6 Needles to Deep Creek (26.4 kilometres)
- Highway 97 Lac la Hache area, and area side roads (61 kilometres)
- Highway 97 Clinton to 83 Mile House (45.5 kilometres)
- Highway 97 Woodpecker to Stoner (11.5 kilometres)

In 2026, more than $136 million will be invested to resurface southern Interior highways and local roads, ensuring that drivers continue to have a safe and comfortable driving experience.
