The Province isn’t the only strong supporter of KidSport™ BC. Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, a Burnaby-based auction house, hosts an annual corporate challenge fundraiser (rbauction.com) for the non-profit organization.
Last year, over 20 corporate teams took part in the day-long event that featured classic competitions such as the egg race and tug o'war. Each team’s efforts were supported by elite athletes like Olympian Mike Janyk, who issued a hilarious video challenge (youtu.be) to everyone involved. Participants answered Janyk by raising $170,000, and this year they hope to meet a $200,000 fundraising goal.
Why is it so important to Ritchie Bros. that they donate their time and resources to supporting KidSport™ BC? Peter Blake, the chief executive officer of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers says, “The Annual Corporate Kids Challenge is all about the kids and KidSport™ BC really is a foundation for community sport participation. We encourage our employees to lead active, healthy lifestyles, and have fun - so KidSport™ BC is a natural fit.”
With the help of the Province and other supporters like Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, KidSport™ BC has expanded from fewer than 20 community chapters to 39. Since 2006, KidSport™ BC has helped more than 15,000 kids, just like this young hockey player, right across B.C. play.
