A team of volunteers and public servants pitched in to assemble the new playground at the Victoria Courthouse, creating a fun and interactive play space in the heart of Victoria this summer for people of all ages to enjoy.
The playground assembly team involved members of the B.C. public service, Christ Church Cathedral Parish and School community, Our Place, and former tent city campers.
The 5,800 square-foot playground includes equipment chosen by children attending Christ Church Cathedral and Sir James Douglas Elementary Schools; swings, slides, climbing nets, a toddler play area and a spinning globe. The redesigned property also features sitting benches and a rubberized safety surface with artistic designs.Habitat Systems Incorporated, which supplied the playground equipment, was on site to guide volunteers through the installation and will conduct a safety inspection following its assembly.
A generous donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, contributed $150,000 towards the cost of the playground equipment. Tire Stewardship B.C. donated $80,000 towards the rubberized safety surface. The Ministry of Citizens’ Services contributed an additional $68,000 towards the playground.
