A public access restriction is now in effect along the Gilpin Forest Service Road, due to the nearby Gilpin wildfire. This area restriction was put in place to protect the public and allow first responders to operate safely in the area.

The wildfire burning in the Gilpin area east of Grand Forks has grown to 224 hectares, but cooler temperatures and higher humidity levels are forecasted for the area.  

BC Wildfire Service crews are working with local fire departments to respond to two wildfires burning between Christina Lake and Grand Forks.  

BC Timber Sales personnel in conjunction with the BC Wildfire Service will be conducting a prescribed burn Monday, June 6, 2016, weather permitting.

Effective at noon PDT on Friday, June 3, 2016, Category 3 open fires will be prohibited in the Southeast Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

Residents of the Christina Lake, Grand Forks and Creston areas may experience smoky conditions as a result of prescribed burning taking place in both Washington and Idaho.

The Southeast Fire Centre is asking the public to exercise caution while conducting any outdoor burning activities this spring, due to expected warm and dry weather conditions this week.

BC Parks, the Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program and the BC Wildfire Service will be conducting a 45-hectare ecosystem restoration burn west of Tulip Creek in Syringa Provincial Park.
