The Fisher Creek bridge will undergo a replacement and road improvements, offering drivers a safer, more reliable passage along the Highway 97 Pine Pass corridor.

Freezing rain is forecast for Highway 97 in the Pine Pass and other areas of the South Peace region and is expected to create potentially hazardous driving conditions starting early Monday, Dec. 26, 2022. 

Construction starts this week to replace the existing culvert at Fur Thief Creek with a new two-lane, 26-metre-long bridge along Highway 97.

Culvert replacement and other repairs are slated to begin later this summer for Highway 29, south of Chetwynd at Zonnebeke Creek.

Chetwynd airport will receive $1,301,350 in funding from the B.C. Air Access Program this year for runway resurfacing, announced MLA for Peace River South Mike Bernier, on behalf of Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone.

A refurbished Stop of Interest sign was unveiled near Chetwynd, recognizing explorer Alexander Mackenzie’s place in British Columbia’s history.

The new Wildmare Bridge on Highway 97 is now complete, announced Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone. The $4.1-million project is part of the Province’s 10-year transportation plan, B.C. on the Move.
