A 90-minute education session is being offered in Kelowna as part of a new school-based gang prevention program to provide parents with practical knowledge on how to help prevent their children from getting involved in youth gangs.

The Province is investing in community-based programs to help adult learners break down education barriers.

The Government of B.C. and the Central Okanagan School District have partnered to invest $36.1 million for a brand new Okanagan Mission Junior Middle school for students in the fast growing neighbourhood of Okanagan Mission.

Students in the Central Okanagan School District will benefit from $3.8 million in provincial funding for a school upgrade project, classroom supplies and nine new school buses, MLA Steve Thomson announced on behalf of Education Minister Mike Bernier.

Students, teachers and staff at École K.L.O. Middle school in the Central Okanagan school district will benefit from $436,000 in provincial School Enhancement Program funding.  

Families in the Central Okanagan school district will no longer pay fees for students riding school buses within their schools’ catchment area thanks to $600,000 in funding under the new provincial Student Transportation Fund.

With the final phase of the $15-million Okanagan Mission Secondary school expansion now complete, students are kicking-off the new school year in an environmentally friendly and updated school.

Students and teachers at École élementaire Belgo, École élementaire Casorso, École élementaire Dorothea Walker, École élementaire George Pringle, École élementaire Glenmore and École élementaire Peter Greer in Lake Country will benefit from innovative learning concepts being put into action thanks to 15 new K-12 Innovation Partnership projects.
