Effective at noon on Friday, May 13, 2016, Category 2 open fires will be prohibited in most areas of the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

The N’Quatqua Band Council and the First Nations’ Emergency Services Society of B.C. will be conducting a series of prescribed burns near D’Arcy, about 27 kilometres northeast of Pemberton, between April 18 and May 20, 2016.

Joan LeMoine, a well-known Parksville citizen and community ambassador, was presented with the province’s newest honour, the Medal of Good Citizenship.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations is undertaking a fuels management treatment project within the City of Powell River to reduce forest fuels near the Penticton Trails.

Two people are helping the Parksville and District Chamber of Commerce Walk on the Wildside (WWS) to promote business growth in the area, thanks to nearly $23,000 in provincial funding.

Effective at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, the area restriction put in place by wildfire officials for the Boulder Creek wildfire will be rescinded, due to reduced fire activity.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations is continuing a controlled burn project in the Haylmore area of the Pemberton Fire Zone.

Effective at noon on Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, all open fires will once again be allowed throughout the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, due to a decreased risk of wildfires.

Effective at midnight on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, the area restriction currently in place for the Elaho Valley wildfire will be rescinded, due to reduced fire activity.
