People in the Bulkley Valley are invited for involvement in the development of the Bulkley-Morice Forest Landscape Plan (FLP).

The B.C. government has provided more than $1.5 million in grants to 11 local governments and First Nations in the Northwest Fire Centre to support wildfire risk reduction initiatives and help keep communities safe.

Strong winds in the Cassiar Fire Zone on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, prompted increased fire activity and caused two of the more prominent wildfires within the Northwest Fire Centre to grow.  

The BC Wildfire Service expects that wildfires burning in the Cassiar Fire Zone will become more active today, Aug. 13, 2019, due to strong winds in the region. This wind pattern is forecasted to continue until Friday, Aug. 16, 2019.

The BC Wildfire Service is deploying additional resources to suppress the Mehan Lake Fire (R51309), burning about 75 kilometres north of Meziadin Junction and four kilometres south of Bell II along Highway 37.

Under B.C.’s Water Sustainability Act, British Columbians who are using groundwater (from a well or dugout) for non-domestic uses on their property are required to submit a groundwater-licence application by March 1, 2019.

The BC Wildfire Service continues to battle wildfires within the Northwest Fire Centre.

The BC Wildfire Service continues to respond to 19 wildfires in the Nadina and Bulkley fire zones, resulting from a band of lightning that entered the area on Wednesday, June 20 and Thursday, June 21, 2018.

Effective at noon on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, campfires will once again be allowed in the entire Northwest Fire Centre.
