Service BC is expanding its services by partnering with the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation (SDSI) office in Smithers, effective today, so residents can make one stop for a variety of government services.

The B.C. government has distributed over $151,000 in compensation for municipal property taxes to the Town of Smithers and the Village of Hazelton.

Effective at noon on Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, Category 2 open burns are once again allowed throughout the Northwest Fire Centre. While fire danger ratings have dropped with the recent rain, the public is encouraged to still exercise caution with any campfires or outdoor burning.

Effective at noon on Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, campfires and other types of open burning will be prohibited in some areas of the Northwest Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

This weekend’s weather forecast is calling for a warming and drying trend and above-seasonal temperatures in northern areas of the province, so the BC Wildfire Service is encouraging members of the public to exercise caution with any campfires and outdoor burning.
