Traditional songs sung by Haida First Nation members opened a milestone event in the Haida Gwaii school district (SD 50) today, as representatives of the provincial government, school district and local bands signed their first Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement.

A feast was held today to celebrate the signing of a second Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement (AEEA) for Delta, with partners committing to support Aboriginal student success and bring a greater awareness of Aboriginal culture and history to all students.

Another significant step on the road to improving Aboriginal student success was taken and celebrated in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith school district today where partners signed a third Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement (AEEA).

More Aboriginal students are completing secondary school in B.C. according to the latest school completion rates, which show a more than three per cent increase.

A new, $25-million, K-12 francophone school, École au Cœur-de-l'île, has officially opened in Comox. With the recent opening of Campbell River's École Mer-et-montagne elementary, francophone students in the area now have two new state-of-the-art, green, comfortable schools.

A community celebration was held to celebrate the official opening of École Mer-et-montagne, a new elementary school to serve Francophone students in the Campbell River area.

The continued success of Aboriginal students in the Okanagan Similkameen school district was highlighted with a feast to celebrate their achievements.
