The Province is closing a small section of the Shuswap River around Trinity Bridge to angling, to protect migrating chinook salmon.

The Province is offering licence-free freshwater fishing this Father’s Day weekend, making it easy for everyone get out and enjoy one of British Columbia’s most popular recreational activities.

The 2016 report on the Crown Contaminated Sites Program details work government has done over the past two years to investigate and clean-up contaminated sites resulting from historical industrial activities where responsibility has defaulted to the Province.

Government biologists will present a comprehensive plan to guide the recovery of Kootenay Lake’s Kokanee stocks at a public meeting, 7 – 9 p.m., Thursday, June 16 at the Balfour Community Hall in Balfour.

A public access restriction is now in effect along the Gilpin Forest Service Road, due to the nearby Gilpin wildfire. This area restriction was put in place to protect the public and allow first responders to operate safely in the area.

British Columbians who enjoy recreational activities in rural areas are reminded that it is illegal to cut down trees without permission, build unauthorized trails or construct unapproved recreational facilities on Crown land.

The wildfire burning in the Gilpin area east of Grand Forks has grown to 224 hectares, but cooler temperatures and higher humidity levels are forecasted for the area.  

BC Wildfire Service crews are working with local fire departments to respond to two wildfires burning between Christina Lake and Grand Forks.  

The N’Quatqua Band Council and the First Nations’ Emergency Services Society of B.C. will be conducting a prescribed burn near D’Arcy (about 27 kilometres northeast of Pemberton) on Wednesday, June 8, 2016.

BC Wildfire Service crews will be conducting a burn trial east of Oliver on June 7, 2016, starting at about noon. Smoke may be visible in Oliver and surrounding areas.
