BC Wildfire Service crews are continuing their efforts to supress a wildfire burning about five kilometres south of Pantage Lake and 40 kilometres northwest of Quesnel.

Effective at noon on Thursday, April 13, 2017, Category 3 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

The B.C. government is providing a total of $232,000 to two local organizations to help manage invasive plants in the Cariboo region.

Residents of the Williams Lake area will see helicopters in the air this week as the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations implements its treatment plan to minimize the spread of Douglas-fir bark beetles on Crown land through selective heli-logging.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations plans to conduct a series of prescribed burns at sites west and south of Williams Lake between Sept. 27 and Nov. 11, 2016, weather conditions permitting.

The BC Wildfire Service is urging the public to adhere to all open burning regulations and be more diligent with their campfire use.

Effective Monday, July 11, 2016 through Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, the Black Creek-Bosk Lake Forest Service Road (FSR) (500 Road) will be closed at the 0.5 kilometre mark to allow for the replacement of a bridge over the Horsefly River.

BC Wildfire Service crews have successfully contained or extinguished all recent wildfires in the Cariboo Fire Centre. The wildfire near Nazko and the wildfire near the Bonaparte River recreation site are both now 100% contained.

Due to the current dry conditions, the Cariboo Fire Centre will be prohibiting Category 2 and Category 3 fires, as of noon on April 4, 2016, to help prevent human-caused fires and protect the public.

The Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail is one step closer to completion in B.C.’s Cariboo region, with the opening of a new bridge over Moffat Creek near Horsefly.
