British Columbia’s new Fish and Seafood Act and associated regulations are more responsive to the modern-day business environment for the B.C. seafood sector and reduces red tape, while supporting sustainability.

British Columbia innovators have a date booked with some of the province’s best tech-heads, food producers and venture capitalists in a challenge to develop new agri-technology and enhance the competitiveness and resiliency of B.C.’s agri-food sector.

Agriculture Minister Norm Letnick has issued the following statement congratulating the governments of Canada and Hong Kong on lifting the raw oyster import ban from Vancouver Island:

The governments of Canada and British Columbia are providing up to $1.6 million over two years to support B.C.’s agrifood producers’ efforts to enhance on-farm food safety practices and meet emerging national and international food-safety traceability requirements.

The governments of Canada and British Columbia announced changes to the AgriInsurance - Production Insurance program that will help B.C. tree-fruit growers manage the risk of crop losses by hail, spring frost, excessive rain, flooding, drought and wind. 

To increase awareness of the farmers’ food donation tax credit that the British Columbia government announced in Budget 2016, Agriculture Minister Norm Letnick is reaching out to B.C. farmers to get social, get giving and get an income tax credit.
