A new on-line system will help new entrants achieve certified organic status, as B.C. farmers continue to meet the consumer demand for certified organic B.C. foods.

British Columbia’s agrifood and seafood sector has accepted the invitation and the challenge. How can we bolster the province’s food supply security and continue to encourage innovation for the sector?

B.C. food businesses sold more products outside of Canada than ever before in 2015, with exports reaching a record $3.5 billion, and that number is anticipated to grow as the Governments of Canada and British Columbia continue efforts to promote high-quality B.C. food overseas.

The City of Abbotsford is inviting British Columbians to take a tour and discover the local, diverse products being produced in their community. From chicken farmers to egg and dairy distributers, there is a range of local companies providing food for the dinner table.

Agriculture Minister Norm Letnick has issued the following statement in advance of B.C. Farmers Appreciation Week, Sept. 12-18, 2016:

Buying locally grown and produced products is a tradition for many Richmond residents, who have a history of supporting locally sourced agrifoods producers and enjoying the flavours from their own neighbourhoods.

Sales of B.C. agrifood products topped $13 billion for the first time in 2015, growing by more than $700 million for the second consecutive year, and contributing to a $2.5 billion (24%) rise in revenues since 2010.

The South Okanagan is brimming with local flavours from a variety of companies, including the Howling Moon Cider House in Oliver and Bordertown Vineyards and Estate Winery in Osoyoos.

As you travel on Highway 97, or the Cariboo Highway as it is known near Cache Creek, one of the local homesteads has a longstanding history along B.C.’s longest highway.
